Harleyford’s “other” tournament professional, Taylor Paul, has made an emphatic start to his 2026 campaign after securing an impressive victory at Ellesborough Golf Club on the Clutch Tier 2 Tour.
Taylor claimed the title with a composed and clinical six-under-par 65, producing a bogey-free round to finish two shots clear of the field. The win marks his second victory on the Clutch Tour, following his breakthrough success at Harleyford in 2023, and immediately positions him as one to watch for the season ahead.
On a demanding Buckinghamshire layout where many players struggled to maintain momentum, Taylor stood out for his consistency, discipline and calm decision-making. Rather than chasing risky opportunities, he relied on smart course management and a patient approach — a strategy that proved decisive over the closing stretch.
The standout element of the round, however, was his exceptional short game. Ellesborough’s firm conditions and tightly mown surrounds placed a premium on touch and recovery play, and Taylor delivered under pressure every time he missed a green.
Reflecting on the performance, Taylor said: “My short game was definitely the highlight of the round, making 8/8 up and downs.”
That flawless scrambling performance ensured he never lost momentum and prevented his rivals from mounting a serious challenge. Time and again, Taylor demonstrated the composure and creativity needed to save par and keep the leaderboard pressure firmly on the chasing pack.
The Clutch Tier 2 Tour continues to be an important proving ground for emerging professionals, and victories like this provide not only ranking benefits but also invaluable confidence. Taylor’s measured approach — prioritising precision over unnecessary aggression — reflects a maturing competitive mindset and an area he has clearly worked hard to develop heading into 2026.
Combined with his natural power off the tee, that improved control around the greens could make him a formidable competitor throughout the season.
Speaking after the win, Taylor added: “It was great to get my second win as a professional and start the 2026 season strong.”
This latest success represents more than just another trophy. It is an early statement of intent from a player determined to build momentum and establish himself as a consistent contender throughout the year ahead.
