Ed Lightowler Successfully Defends Seniors' Cup Title

Harleyford Golf Club's Seniors' Section once again demonstrated the strength of competitive golf within the Club as 52 players took part in this year's Seniors' Cup on a warm but extremely windy day.

With gusting winds expected to make scoring difficult, many anticipated a challenging afternoon. However, the quality of golf on display quickly proved otherwise, with several impressive scores returned despite the testing conditions.

Leading the way was Ed Lightowler, who successfully defended his Seniors' Cup title with an outstanding Stableford score of 42 points. It was a superb performance that secured back-to-back victories and reinforced his reputation as one of the section's most consistent competitors.

Roger Povey finished just one point behind on 41 points to claim second place while also winning the prestigious Elder Statesman Trophy, awarded annually to the best Stableford score from players aged over 75. Sixteen members competed for this year's trophy, highlighting the excellent participation within the senior membership.

Christopher Snow continued his excellent recent form to finish third with 40 points, while Howard Neal and Nigel Dickinson both posted impressive rounds of 39 points.

Away from the main prizes, there were plenty of other successes to celebrate throughout the day. Martin Beazley and Christopher Snow collected the weekly wine prizes, while Baz Barry enjoyed a little extra fortune after being drawn as the champagne winner from those who found the 12th green in one shot.

There were also six twos recorded across the course, including two from Colin Elwell, while Paul Clark, Peter Simonds and Tim Dickinson all added their names to the list. The Longest Drive competition was won by Lars Lindstedt.

Competitions like the Seniors' Cup continue to demonstrate just how active Harleyford's senior membership has become. The section enjoys an extensive calendar of competitions, matches and social events, providing opportunities for golfers to enjoy friendly competition throughout the year.

Credit must also go to the volunteers who continue to help these competitions run so smoothly. Seniors' Captain Rod McKee thanked Ray Huckle and Glenn Burns for once again acting as stewards throughout the day, ensuring another well-organised event.
