The new season is well underway, and what a start it has been. Both Captains would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the season’s opening events and the Captain’s Drive-In. With a fantastic turnout, great energy on the patio, and even some sunshine to match, it was the perfect way to begin what promises to be a memorable year.
A key focus for the season ahead is a strong commitment to a “One Club” philosophy. With both Men’s and Women’s sections working closely together, the aim is simple: increase participation, create more opportunities to play, and ensure everyone feels part of the club. Expect to see a more varied calendar, including genuinely mixed events and some thoughtful updates to competition formats to make them more inclusive.
On the Men’s side, changes are already in motion. The introduction of three divisions is designed to encourage wider participation across all handicap levels, alongside plans to reduce entry fees. Popular fixtures are returning too, including the Women vs Seniors match on 28th April and a refreshed Captain and Pro challenge. The first MAJOR competition of the year, the Jubilee Cup, opens for entry on 4th April—so be sure to get your name down early.
Meanwhile, the Women’s section is gearing up for a busy and exciting schedule. The Spring Meeting on 2nd April will be followed by lunch, with all members warmly invited to attend. Competitive golf also gets underway with scratch and friendly matches, offering opportunities for players of all abilities, as well as chances to enjoy different courses through friendly fixtures. There’s also plenty to look forward to on the team front, including the Bucks Shield and a national Academia match-play event in Spain.
It’s also fantastic to welcome new members into the fold, particularly those graduating from Jon’s Academy. Tuesday sign-up days are a great opportunity to meet others and get involved—something strongly encouraged across all sections.
Looking ahead, Easter brings a full weekend of mixed competitions, including Stablefords and a fun event on Easter Monday—another perfect example of the club coming together.
With continued investment in the course, including the new irrigation system, and the hard work of the greenkeeping team, playing conditions are set to be better than ever. Alongside all this, the club will be supporting its chosen charity, Sport in Mind, helping to promote mental health through sport—a cause we hope everyone will get behind.
Here’s to a fantastic season ahead—full of great golf, strong community spirit, and a true One Club experience.
