Annual Greens Renovation Underway

This week marks one of the most important dates in our course maintenance calendar as we carry out our annual greens renovation programme.

While the work may cause some temporary disruption, these essential renovations play a vital role in maintaining healthy, smooth and consistent putting surfaces throughout the year. By investing in the long-term health of the greens now, we're helping to ensure they continue to perform at their very best in the months ahead.

The renovation programme includes several key processes designed to improve turf health and drainage:

• Deep solid tining to a depth of 9 inches using 12mm tines, helping relieve soil compaction and encourage stronger root growth.

• Core aeration using 10mm tines to a depth of 2.5 inches, with all cores collected and removed from the surface.

• Overseeding with Cobra Nova pure bent grass seed to improve turf density and create finer, healthier putting surfaces.

• Topdressing with sand to fill the aeration holes, smooth the surface and improve soil structure.

Alongside these operations, specialist contractors will also be carrying out sand injection. Using dedicated equipment connected to a water supply at each green, pressurised water drives sand deep into the soil profile—reaching depths of up to 8 inches. This process significantly improves drainage, encourages deeper rooting and promotes healthier turf throughout the growing season.

Once all renovation work has been completed, the greens will be brushed, blown clean and fresh holes cut ready for play.

We appreciate your patience while these essential works are carried out. Although the greens may look unsettled for a short period, the benefits of this programme will be seen throughout the remainder of the season, helping us provide the high-quality putting surfaces everyone enjoys.
