7th Hole

Good Afternoon,

As I am sure you're aware, the 7th fairway is currently suffering from a worm cast issue making it extremely muddy. Worm casts are especially bad this year due to the combination of a very wet summer and the chemical we used to spray to minimise worm casts now being banned.

Unfortunately, as a result, the club has decided it is best to close the 7th hole from this Saturday (November 20th) until further notice. As I am sure you can understand, this is no easy decision as the club prides itself on having a golf course that is open year-round. However, we feel this decision will be hugely beneficial in the long run and will also help the pace of play. We will endeavour to reopen the hole as soon as it is safe and sensible to do so.

In an effort to combat this issue, the club is exploring different options to avoid this happening again. We are researching alternative chemicals to use and considering mowers with brushes attached to clear worm casts before cutting.

Handicap rounds

Thankfully, with the introduction of the World Handicap System, this closure won't affect handicap rounds. Members can still enter 17 hole general play cards and qualifying competitions can still go ahead.
 

1. All upcoming qualifying and non-qualifying competitions have now been changed to 17 hole events on IG, where the 7th hole will be completed skipped when you enter your score.
    
2. When entering a General Play round, simply enter a No Score (NS) on the 7th, which equates to a nett par. If you enter an NR on the hole, the computer will give you a nett double bogey.
    
3. If you're playing in a match, the 7th hole will be automatically halved.

Whilst we appreciate this is an inconvenience, we hope it will make your round more enjoyable and trust you understand it is best for the course.
