Euro-Pro Tournament 2021

Today’s tense finish rounds off another very successful EuroPro week, showcasing golf of the highest quality, with the course record being broken twice in the space of an hour! Congratulations to this year’s champion Gian-Marco Petrozzi, who closed out the victory after a tense finish, which saw him edge out Nicholas Poppleton after the first playoff hole.

With the first tee at 6.30hrs setting off a busy day of golf, Wednesday saw Ashton Turner set the pace with a -9, 63 to take a two-shot lead after day 1.

Thursday saw some obscene scoring! The course record was initially matched by Nicholas Poppelton, narrowly missing his putt for a 62 on the last. Then came Rhys Thompson, posting a bogey-free 62 to set a new course record. But only minutes later, this record would be broken again by Gian-Marco Petrozzi, firing a 61 which included 8 birdies in a row from holes 4-11!

The final day saw Turner, Petrozzi and Poppleton pull away from the field, as they tussled for the lead for most of the back nine, all tied at -17 on the 18th tee. With Petrozzi in the clubhouse at that score, Turner lost his tee shot right to miss out on a playoff, which was won by Petrozzi, after Poppleton made the same mistake as Turner minutes later.

A special mention to our own Taylor Paul, who played incredible golf over the three days, finishing on -8. Taylor’s week included a first-round -5 67, and an Eagle-birdie finish to finish on -8, so good!  A respectable finish for the current Club Champion Ignatius McGuinness, posting a score of -1 for the two rounds, but unfortunately missed out on the final day, along with Will Symons and Luke Hawkins, also posting good scores.

A big thank you to all our volunteering members, for meticulously updating scoreboards and keeping us all updated. An integral part of the team for the week and one of the reasons the tour continually returns to Harleyford.

A fact that will surprise no one, 18 was the toughest hole on the course, which yielded only 41 birdies over the three days, and 114 scores of bogey or worse! Meanwhile, 17 played by far the easiest, with a field average of 4.33 shots.

To all members, thank you again for your patience and understanding over the past week whilst the course and range has been closed. You’ll be coming back to a course in tip-top condition!

Have a great evening,

The Harleyford Team
