Star Player
Lastly, for those of you who haven't heard, congratulations must go to Thalia on a fantastic week at the Woman’s English Amateur Championship. The tournament which was held at Woodhall Spa Golf Club in Lincolnshire, saw 66 of England’s best female amateurs play 36 holes Stroke Play, with the top 16 qualifying for the Match Play.
Thalia opened her campaign with back-to-back birdies en route to a -4 69 on the Hotchkin course, to lead by 3 shots. Her score was the lowest of the day in both the men’s and ladies events, made even more impressive by the gale force winds she had to contend with. A steady 2nd round was good enough for her to win the Stroke Play section at -1, making her the number 1 seed for the Match Play.
In her first round Thalia beat Oklahoma State University player Lianna Bailey 2&1, thanks in part to some fantastic putting. Her form continued in the Quarter Finals where she faced Junior Solheim Cup Player and England International Euphemie Rhodes. A convincing 3&2 win put Thalia in the Semi Finals where she narrowly lost 1 down to Emily Price.
This result capped off a magnificent few weeks for Thalia, who in July finished 3rd at a Clutch Pro Tour event where she beat over a dozen tour pros, including Robert Rock, Charley Hull, and World Golf Hall of Famer Laura Davies.
I’m sure you’ll all join me in wishing Thalia good luck for the rest of her season.
Once again, we would request that any members who show early symptoms of the virus, or who have close family or friends with whom they have been in contact recently, who have been diagnosed with the virus to follow Government guidelines and not to visit the Club for at least 14 days.
As well as the points listed below, I would remind members of the importance of regularly washing your hands with soap and water, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and disposing of any tissues when used.
Lastly, should any members have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Continue to stay safe,
Jack Slade
