At the BCLGA Executive Meeting held yesterday, 17th March 2020, the latest Government advice on the Corona Virus epidemic was discussed. In particular we considered the advice regarding non- essential travel, social distancing and self isolation of the over 70s and at risk groups.
Reluctantly, the Executive Committee has decided to curtail all BCLGA events until the end of June. Specifically this means: • all summer league and individual/pairs summer knockout competitions for this summer are cancelled • the Bucks Challenge Shield is put on hold with no matches to take place at this stage; a view will be taken later in the summer as to whether a shortened version can be played or not • all matches, ( friendlies, juniors, seniors and second team) up to end of June are cancelled • the Seniors Spring meeting is cancelled • The County championships on May 17th, May 23rd and May 24th are cancelled • the Par 3 competition on June 27th is postponed; it may be rescheduled later in the season • all training sessions and junior fun/academy events are cancelled • No decision has been made as yet about the Summer Meeting on July 17th, or the Senior and Junior Championships on August 16th • We do not know what will be happening with County Match Week - we await a decision from England Golf. As of today, England Golf have cancelled all their events up to 7th June.
Entry fees for Clubs in these competitions will be rolled over to cover your entry fees for next year. With individual/pairs knockouts, we also propose that all entry fees will roll over to next year; however for those individuals that may prefer a refund, then you will need to apply for this on a form to be obtained from Carolyn Rivett, the County Treasurer. Her email is treasurer@bclga.org.uk
Other News - The juniors Par 3 competition was held on 1st March - some excellent scoring at Wycombe Heights with a very worthy winner in Daisy Kennedy. We held a first team training session on 8th March followed in the afternoon by a match between some first team squad players and some junior team players. As it turned out, all players were juniors! The first team won the trophy that had been donated by Tony Bowers, County Coach, , but the junior team put up a good fight! The BB&O junior team stableford was held on 15th March at Oakland Park, but organised by Berkshire. Although Oxfordshire won the team trophy, Ciara Shannon from Chesham and Ley Hill won the individual prize with a massive 44 points and cut her handicap in the process.
I do hope that you will all stay safe and well over the coming months and may be able to get some golf in at your local course.
The Executive will continue to monitor Government and England Golf advice and I will send out another newsletter in April.
